Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora

An amine that I watched last year, but because I need to come back to perth study, I stopped and never watch the ending. The first 5 episodes honestly bored me out. I guess is because how can this guy like someone who only throws temper at him in such a short time. And how can this gal like this loser. Is only the last episode that I watched finally made me understand the plot.

There is this girl Rika who had been sick for a long time due to heart failure and she had living in the hospital since young. She never smiles until this boy, yuuichi came. Like a typical story, they fall in love but time is running out for Rika who may die anytime.

It is when Rika has to go through an operation that can extend her life for another few year or choose to live for the remaining few months. She may die if the operation is not successful. Rika was uncertain but in the bookmark she wrote for yuuichi said,

“Let’s stop this unfair behavior. Rush against a storm. I will advance and choose death, our love is threatened, let’s prove it together, at the risk of my life, I will be yours.”

The doctor had told Yuuichi that he should give up on her and move on to persuade his career. At first, Yuuichi was not able to see Rika is after her operation because of Rika’s mother. He was in doubt and was about to give up. But there are people he once encountered reminded him that he should not let go.

“when you find a girl you like, you have to cherish her.”

“Everything including fate and future is up to you. You might think is a shame, but you can’t escape from it. We have to live in a shameful place and a shameful life. Refuse your future or fate if it doesn’t go the way you want. Twist them. Maybe you can, and maybe you can’t. It depends on chance, even if it is just one percent. You can do anything if it is for Rika, cant you?

“Grab what you can, your hands are for that.”

In the end, Yuuichi stretches out his hand to Rika and choose to be her side till time runs out. Even at the cost of his future, just to make her smile till the day she leaves.



Often in life, we forget the true reason to fall in love. Loving someone is not about receiving. And too, we forget what we have untill is gone. Sometimes we may be overcome by pain and lust. But we shouldn’t forget why we love someone. It’s for his/her happiness. Maybe is just for that minute, and maybe is for eternity. And for Yuuichi and Rika, even time is their enemy, they choose to fight on.

Someone told me is not worth to fight for something that may not give you anything in return. But for me, even for a day, able to make her smile once more is worth it.
